Our Charity of The Year

Every year Brislington WI choose a charity to support: This year the contenders are:

Feed The Homeless BRISTOL has been going since February 2016, and has been registered as a charity since October 2016 (charity number 1169924). Our volunteers are split into three main groups; the cooks provide hot meals, sandwiches and snacks, the walkers distribute this food along with any warm clothing, blankets and sleeping bags that have been donated, directly to the needy on the streets and the management team (including our dedicated trustees) help ensure we meet our core objectives and continue to grow. Currently all activities centre around distributing hot meals to the homeless within the Bristol city centre on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays and in Weston Super Mare 7 days a week. With the continued support from our vibrant and caring multi-faith-based community, we hope to build upon this and reach even more homeless people in the future. www.feedthehomeless.org.uk

Womankind is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. The organisation was founded in 1986 and since that time has provided a range of services for women with mental health problems in the Bristol area.
Mission - To help women improve their mental health and well-being. Our hope and belief is that because of our help, women will experience a better quality of life, participate more fully in society, enjoy more fulfilling relationships and be better able to care for themselves, and where appropriate, their families. Values - Womankind exists to enable women to define their own mental health needs. Aims to improve the quality of women’s lives by helping them to become less dependent on mental health and social services. Aims to make its services accessible to women on low incomes. Womankind recognises that the roots of women’s difficulties are often linked to personal life histories. We also recognise that the social and political environment in which women live affect their mental health. www.womankindbristol.org.uk

SARSAS are a specialist support service for people in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset, or South Gloucestershire, who have experienced any form of sexual violence, at any point in their lives.
SARSAS offers a confidential helpline, regular support sessions, counselling, and email support to any individuals subjected to sexual violence, exploitation, intimidation, coercion or harassment, whether physical or verbal. We can also offer training and advice to professionals. SARSAS also supports friends and family of people affected by sexual violence. SARSAS currently offers a helpline service 5 times a week, structured support, email support, and we can also provide advocacy services. We believe rape and sexual violence is never the fault of the victim and we will always believe and support you. We understand that it is difficult to talk about these things. We can offer a safe and private space where you will be believed and you won’t be judged. SARSAS is currently funded by Bristol City Council, Ministry of Justice, charitable and statutory grant makers and donations from individuals. SARSAS works to raise awareness of sexual violence and challenge the myths and misconceptions about it. We lobby and campaign locally and nationally to promote the needs of survivors. www.sarsas.org.uk
